Alternative Management Models

Since the publication of the Government Select Committee on Markets in 2008, NABMA has worked with the Department of Communities and Local Government to put forward to local authorities in particular potential alternative management arrangements for their markets.

In addition, NMTF is active in promoting the trader operated model in partnership with Co-operatives UK. To date, NMTF has assisted the formation of 12 trader-run markets, including Thame (Oxfordshire), Cottingham (East Yorkshire), and Whitstable (Kent). The majority are small, outdoor markets.

NABMA is undertaking a short survey to see whether market operators are thinking about changing their management arrangements. Results of the survey will help NABMA and NMTF to get a much better picture of what is happening nationally and it will be of value to market operators in making future decisions.

The survey is being conducted by Colin Wolstenholme, Market Manager at Bradford Council, who is NABMA's Research Officer. Should you have any questions about the survey, please contact Colin on 01274 432243 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
